(The tale has yet to be authenticated). This, like many of my other blog post, started out as me sharing something from my news feed with a little of my personal opinion added. Unlike those I feel like I have to share this. Not to ruffle feathers, but because of it's shock value, and in hopes that someone will get something out of this. I don't recall ever hearing the slur before, but the whole story behind it is just... I know of the evils that mankind will do to its own, I have seen it with my own eyes, heard stories from others, and in this age of internet you can find yourself in the middle of a firefight, bombing,or a drug cartel massacre with all but a few keystrokes. But this,.. this... you have to be completely devoid of a soul to do something like this.
I don't see how the guilty parties were able to sleep at night. I don't see how they could look at themselves in the mirror and not see the monster that they were. I don't see how they would be able to set foot in a church and sing praises to God, claim to live by His word, yet be involved in something that would make the devil himself cringe. I'm angered, not at any particular group of people, because the perpetrators are long dead and gone, but I'm angry that it was allowed to take place. I'm angry because some persons thought that it was okay to do that. I'm angry because prior to seeing the video I did not know that such a thing existed at one point.
It reminds me of the incident caused when the "Crocodile Hunter," Australian Steve Irwin took his infant son (Robert) into the crocodile enclosure with him. Having anyone in an enclosure like (experience or inexperienced) is dangerous, but to take your newborn child into the enclosure, then feed the creatures and play as though the child is running from the crocodiles is beyond mad. I don't care how much trust and faith she had in her husband, Terri Irwin should have whooped his ass up one side of the street and down the other.
Now image that something like that happened here in America. Imagine that instead of a trained and professional wildlife expert it was some guys kidnapping the babies of slaves. Imagine that they tied up these terrified, screaming children and used them as bait to catch 600+ lbs. (272 kg.) alligators in the swamps. Now imagine that it really happened. I can't positively say that it did, but if it did...
I would love to find out that it is all just some tall tale fabricated by parents to keep their children from wandering about or near places they shouldn't go, but there's the story, and there's the postcards, and the slur itself. It's one of those dark parts of American history. Should it be something that should be taught in schools? No, I don't think it should be taught in schools, but it should not be ignored in hopes that it will fade away, even though that appears to be what has happened.
